All things that we hold dear, we protect. Our loved ones, our homes, and our personal belongings are the items that usually are on the top of the list, but what about our bodies? It’s a new year and many people begin January with a new membership to a gym and promise themselves they are going to become the best version of themselves. This is a great and something everyone should do, but just saying it isn’t enough. You have to follow through with the goal and maintain it.
The body is made up of many parts and each one deserves attention and should be properly maintained and protected. We put our teeth through a lot on a daily basis, so it’s normal that they experience wear and tear. To best minimize this however there are some things that we all can do to protect them from the harsh affects of acid erosion. They include:
Beverages – Be careful when it comes to your regular beverage of choice. Options such as wine, soft drinks and sports drinks are fine to enjoy every once in a while, but the sugar content and acidic properties make them strong offenders of destroying the enamel on your teeth.
Food – The sugar and acid levels of various types of food (ex: vinegar and vinegar based salad dressings, processed food, carbohydrate heavy foods, etc) can be very detrimental to the teeth if regularly consumed in large amounts.
Whenever you do happen to consume these food or drink items make sure to rinse out your mouth with water soon afterward if you are able to. By doing this you won’t give the sugar and acids from the food a chance to sit on and in between your teeth and do any damage.
