Tooth Extraction
In the presence of severe decay, catastrophic fracture or extreme mobility, dental surgery becomes necessary to remove the tooth in order to re-establish optimal oral health. Our oral surgery team specializes in the removal of irreparable dentition and can provide excellent counsel on how to appropriately restore the edentulous space following a nominal healing period.

Wisdom tooth extraction
Our team of doctors recommend the routine extraction of wisdom teeth when it is obvious that the teeth will not erupt into the mouth in a favourable position. Extraction of wisdom teeth is an oral surgery procedure and does have certain inherent risk; our team of doctors however have received specific training to perform this procedure in a safe and predictable fashion. We also recommend the use of sedation in order to make the patient experience as comfortable as possible.
Platelet Rich Fibrin (PRF) – Is a natual healing modality utilized following surgical procedures such as extractions, bone grafting or implants. PRF is often recommended to aid the healing of the surgical areas as it utlizes the patients own blood cells to aid in a more rapid and comfortable healing process. It is a simple procedure whereby certain components of the patient’s blood are removed from a sample taken in clinic. Dr. Winlow would be happy to answer any questions you may have about this.

Bone grafting
When a tooth is removed from the jaw, the healing process that occurs results in the loss of both bone height and width. Bone grafting at the time of extraction is an effective and safe method of preserving the bony tissue that would otherwise be lost following extraction. Our doctors have garnered substantial experience in various types of bone grafting and would be pleased to discuss which option best suits your needs.

Soft tissue grafting (gum grafting)
A gum graft is a surgical procedure that has the desired outcome of augmenting the thickness of the gingiva and in certain cases, repairing areas of recession. A gum graft may be the appropriate solution if you have significant recession defects, have a thin and fragile gingival type, or demonstrate areas of inflammation that are poorly controlled with normal oral hygiene procedures. Various techniques of gum grafting are employed at Aylmer Dentistry, and it would be our pleasure to discuss which technique best meets your particular treatment needs.
